Types watchwinders
Functional watchwinder: Such reels can fulfill one or more winding watches. Typically, these units are holding the watch on the exterior of the device. As such, they tend to be somewhat high on a table or shelf. Some who watch more than one process begin to resemble carnival rides, with their merry-go-round and Ferris wheel configurations and multiple rotating watch holders.
Elegant watchwinder: These reels go beyond pure functionality and offer a nice shape and exterior. Normally they are a completely closed cabinet, often made of beautifully finished wood or covered with leather. They are suitable for display on a desk or dresser, but many are able to fit in a drawer or safe.
Extravagant watchwinder: As with many luxury items, the sky’s the limit on options. Reels with heaters in order to keep the watch is in the vicinity of the body temperature, loading built-in storage, and atomic-clock-synchronized time displays are a number of esoteric and beyond features that are available on a number of the very high-end reels.
Within these are options of a / c and battery-powered units. The battery units are especially great for use on the shelves, in drawers, or in a safe.
Should I start with a single head unit or go for a multi-headed unit?
If you wish to be enough of a collector to a watch winder, not short-change yourself by skimping on a watchwinder that can handle only one watch. If you have bug, it will not be long before the watch you buy another machine and be caught short. Think of at least one of the single-unit watchwinders have optional two-watch head. Or buy a single-watch unit for starters and expects to add later a multi-watch unit.
What should I consider?
Do not underestimate the value of the manual wind watch for your collection. They offer the joy of having to communicate with your collection every day or two to get them through. It is nice to be needed. Vintage manual wind watches are readily available, modern ones are less common, but still made. Not only will you not need a watchwinder, they are deliberately simple to wind by hand. Many machines have crowns screw or otherwise not care for frequent manual winding.
What are automatic watches?
Automatic watches are designed for fairly regular wear. So concentrate your ownership of automatic watches to the ones that you will at least wear a few times a week. Winders are a nice convenience for watches that you do not wear every day. But why turn away most of the lifetime of several nice watches for you to wear them rarely.

A poor watchwinder is worse than no winder. Automatic watches are designed to be worn by humans. People in a variety of ways, making a fairly steady movement of internal winding the watch. A watchwinder is normally limited to a finite number of directions and forms of movement – some as little as a single movement. So a poorly designed winder (especially one you tried to create an old electric drill and spare auto parts when you first heard that sells a real winder for hundreds of dollars), undesirable wear of the mechanisms of the watch excessive and cause repetitive motion.
